'Father ,Your Children Are Calling You to Come Back' – President Mahama Appeals to Ken Ofori-Atta

President John Dramani Mahama has made a passionate appeal to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana and face the legal processes surrounding the investigations involving him, saying, "Your children are calling you to come back."

Speaking during his Resetting Ghana Tour in the Volta Region, President Mahama recalled a time when more than 80 Members of Parliament from the then-ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) called for Ofori-Atta's removal as Finance Minister. At the time, Ofori-Atta reportedly described himself as a father who could not abandon his children. Mahama used those remarks to urge him to return home voluntarily.

"So if we Ghanaians are your children, we are calling you. We are begging you, father, come back. Your children are calling you to come back," the President said. He questioned why someone who believes they have done nothing wrong would choose to remain outside the country instead of returning to clear their name through the courts.

President Mahama explained that the government has already initiated the legal process to seek Ofori-Atta's return through extradition, emphasizing that the matter will be determined in accordance with international law. He noted that the Attorney General's Department has filed the necessary application, and the final decision will rest with an American judge.

The President stressed that Ofori-Atta would have the opportunity to defend himself in court if he returns, insisting that Ghana's judicial system will ensure due process. The remarks have since generated widespread political debate as legal proceedings regarding the former Finance Minister continue.
